We hope you had a relaxing holiday season and are staying warm during this arctic freeze. Like many of you, we’re thinking about our 2018 vision and goals. In this new year, you’ll notice that TWDG is going to focus more on civic tech – technologies explicitly created to tackle major public, societal challenges.
From public infrastructure AI that is revamping our rapidly aging roads and rails to democracy tech that is shining lights of transparency on our political systems – in 2018 we’re going to be digging into the cutting edge ways that tech is being used as a force to create a more just, equitable and open world.
Why this focus? Pittsburgh has established itself as the robotics and artificial intelligence capital of the world. The former City of Steel will be the 21st century building the technologies that will impact our lives locally as well as nationally and globally. Recognizing the critical role that Pittsburgh will play in developing new technologies that change the way of life for millions and billions of people, we feel it’s critical to push these emerging technologies towards a direction that maximizes social equity, justice and transparency – or more simply civic benefit.
Stay tuned each week for more of Pittsburgh’s latest Social Impact news and more exciting news about the latest civic tech that is tackling our greatest community challenges.
Fired up, ready to go!
